RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University men's basketball team was back at the Hermann Athletic Center Saturday afternoon, where the Pacers fell to the Falcons of Division II Saint Augustine's, 90-70.

WPU (4-3) trailed by one with 11:37 left in the first half, but Saint Aug's took control of the game with a 15-2 run over the next six minutes and change for a 17-point, 39-22 lead at the break.. The Pacers shot the ball better in the second half following an abysmal 24% mark from the field in the first half (8-of-33), but they struggled mightily defensively. The Falcons went 33-of-55 (60%) from the field for the game after posting an unheard of 78.3% clip in the second half.

"Early on in the first half I thought we got great shots, but we have to figure out a way to impact the game doing other things when those shots aren't going in," said head coach Claude Shields. "We have a lot to work on defensively. We played harder in the second half, but when you dig yourself a big hole you have to get stops."

Freshman Sam Johnson was one of the few bright spots for the Pacers with his best game to date. Johnson went 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 from the stripe for 22 points. Senior Terry Rogers also finished in double figures with 15 points and four assists.

The WPU men's basketball team has over a week off for exams before taking the court again. The Pacers welcome Randolph-Macon to Raleigh on Wednesday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m.
