Women's Basketball Edged at Randolph, 57-56

LYNCHBURG, VA – The William Peace University women's basketball team traveled to face the Wildcats of Randolph College Sunday afternoon. Once again, the Pacers erased a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter but fell just short, 57-56.

The Pacers (4-4) trailed 48-37 after the third quarter but took over in the fourth, ripping off 15 straight points for a 52-48 lead with less than five minutes to play. With the game tied at 56 in the closing seconds, WPU had the ball with a chance to win but couldn't convert. Korin Harris grabbed the rebound and found Abigail Bullins, who raced up the court and drew a foul with no time remaining. Bullins missed the first but made the second for the win.

WPU outrebounded Randolph, 54-49, and limited their possessions, forcing 21 Wilcdat turnovers for 17 points at the other end. The Pacers were called for 11 more fouls though (27-16), which ended up being the difference in the game. Randolph (1-8) went 17-of-26 (65.4%) from the charity stripe, while WPU only took 11 free-throws the entire game.

Freshman Lakeia Jones led the way for WPU with 12 points and 10 rebounds, the first double-double of her career. Alexis Armstrong was a rebound shy of also posting a double-double, finishing with 10 points, nine boards and pair of blocked shots. Brittany Boykin scored 12 points to go along with seven assists, three rebounds and three assists. Cassidy Clark only scored two points but did grab a career high 10 rebounds.

Bullins recorded a game high 16 points, while Hope Randolph added 13 points and nine rebounds.

The WPU women's basketball team won't play again for another three weeks when they travel to Methodist University on January 4.
