Pacers Win Fourth Straight at St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, NC – The William Peace University women's basketball team traveled to St. Andrews University Monday night, where the Pacers picked up their fourth straight win, topping the Knights, 71-48.  

"It's always good to come back after a week off and get a win like that, especially with a tough opponent coming to our place tomorrow night," said head coach Kelly Johnson. "We can still execute better offensively, but we hit some shots tonight, and I thought we really took them out of their rhythm with our press."

The Pacers went 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the field and 7-of-11 (63.6%) from beyond the arc, which are season high marks across the board. WPU (4-1) scored 28 points off turnovers, forcing the Knights to cough it up 27 times. They held SAU to an 18-of-56 (32.1%) shooting night, including only 1-of-14 (7.1%) from long-distance.

Brittany Boykin's led WPU with a game high 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals. Tenae McKinzie recorded 12 points, six assists, two rebounds and a steal, while Alexis Armstrong added 12 points, three boards, a pair of assists and four steals. Susannah Sykes finished with 11 points, four rebounds, an assist and three steals. Hannah Ericksen chipped in with nine points, five boards and a steal.

Ellen Dukes led the way for the Knights (2-7) with 17 points, four rebounds and a steal.

The WPU women's basketball team turns around on short rest, hosting the Quakers of Guilford College Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Guilford, picked to finish sixth in the ODAC, comes into the game with an identical 4-1 record. The Quakers are 3-0 against the USA South with wins over Meredith, Greensboro and NC Wesleyan.
