RALEIGH, NC – Following a blowout win at St. Andrews on Monday, the William Peace University women's basketball team had their four-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night, as the Pacers fell to the Quakers of Guilford College, 75-48.
WPU (4-1) came out of the gates slow and never recovered after Guilford outscored them, 26-7, in the opening quarter. The Pacers didn't seem to have their legs under them, shooting less than 36% from the field (20-of-56) and only 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.The Quakers dominated WPU on the glass (49-35) and grabbed 26 offensive rebounds for 29 second chance points. The Pacers also coughed it up 18 times, leading to 23 points for Guilford at the other end.
"We have plenty of back-to backs in conference play, which is why we scheduled it this way, so we have to get used to it," said head coach
Kelly Johnson. "We didn't shoot it as well as we did last night, but I was disappointed in the way we ran our offense more than anything else. We just have to chalk it up, get everyone on the same page and get ready for conference play on Friday."
Alexis Armstrong was the only Pacer in double-figures with 12 points and a team best six rebounds.
Cassidy Clark finished with eight points, five rebounds, an assist and three steals.
Tenae McKinzie notched seven points and six assists, while
Susannah Sykes also had seven points, three rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal.
Guilford (5-1) had four players in double-figures led by 16 apiece from Anais Weatherly and Lauren Ramsey. Weatherly was a rebound short of a double-double and Ramsey added six assists, five rebounds and two steals.
The WPU women's basketball team is back at the Hermann Athletic Center this Friday, December 4 for their USA South conference opener against the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan.
