FERRUM, VA – The William Peace University volleyball team was back in action this afternoon, traveling for a pair of conference matches at Ferrum College. The Pacers lost in five sets to Averett, the top team in the North Division, before falling to Ferrum, 3-0.
WPU (11-7, 5-4 USAS) came out with a 25-20 win in the opening set against Averett before dropping the next two, 25-22 and 25-19. The Pacers extended the match with a 25-19 win of their own in the fourth, but the Cougars (15-7, 7-0 USAS) closed things out in the fifth, 19-17.
Liana Solomon led the way for the Pacers with a triple-double of 27 assists, 14 digs, 13 assists and three block assists.
Tempestt Frazier registered 11 kills at a .381 clip to go along with seven block assists, while
Laura Bland finished with 12 kills, three digs, a block solo and a block assist.
Carson Williams had a team high 16 digs and six assists.
WPU wasn't able to bounce back in their second match of the day, as Ferrum (11-6, 5-2 USAS) took them down in three sets, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21. It was the first time the Pacers have been swept this season.
Bland paced the attack with 12 kills, while Solomon notched 31 assists, five digs and a pair of kills.
Merica Ivey finished with seven kills, two block assists and block solo.
Connor Davis had six kills and 10 digs.
The WPU volleyball team plays again next this Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m., as they hit the road for a non-conference match against Guilford College. The Pacers are 1-1 this year against the Quakers.
