WPU Women's Basketball Squashes Squirrels, 68-48

STAUNTON, VA – The William Peace women's basketball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead against Mary Baldwin this afternoon and never looked back. The Pacers snapped a four game skid winning, 68-48.

WPU (6-10, 3-7 USAS) turned Mary Baldwin over 26 times, which led to 23 points at the other end. The Pacers were also fueled by the three-ball, as they drained a season high eight shots from beyond the arc (8-of-27).

The Pacers finished the game shooting 38.8% (26-of-67) from the field. Defensively, they held Mary Baldwin to a 29.6% (16-of-54) outing from the field. The Squirrels (0-15, 0-9 USAS) did make it to the free-throw line 18 more times than WPU, but they only went 13-of-29 (44.8%), while the Pacers went 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the stripe.

Derrica Jones led the way for WPU with a game high 16 points and nine rebounds. Ka'la Jordan had 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Brittany Boykin scored nine off the bench to go along with four rebounds and an assist. DeJah Cheatham registered eight points, two boards, and a pair of assists.

For Mary Baldwin, Kaybria Johnson also scored a game high 16 points, in addition to four rebounds and three steals. Teanna Peavy scored eight and brought down 12 rebounds.
