ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The William Peace Volleyball team traveled to Rocky Mount this afternoon for another pair of USA South matches. The Pacers were swept by Averett but salvaged a split for the day with a 3-1 win over Ferrum.
In their first match of the day against Averett, William Peace went down without a fight. The Pacers committed 44 total errors to Averett's 19 to fall in three sets: 25-16, 25-11, 25-19.
WPU came out just as flat in their next match against Ferrum losing the first set, 25-19. However, the Pacers managed to pull it together winning the next three and the match: 25-22, 25-15, 25-23.
Nicole Phillips collected a career high 15 kills at a .406 clip to lead the Pacers attack, while Laura Bland continues her solid stretch of play tallying 14 kills to go along with 7 digs, a block solo, and a block assist. Megan Mansfield had a solid outing with 11 kills, in addition to 5 digs and 2 block solos.
Lorena Fernandez racked up a career high 40 assists in her first significant action as a member of the Pacers volleyball team. Fernandez also chipped in 8 digs.
Maddie Irvin led the defensive efforts with 16 digs. Carson Williams also reached double-digit digs with 10.
The William Peace volleyball team will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. as they host the Avenging Angels of Meredith College in their first home game of the year.
