WPU Volleyball Collapses in Third, Fourth Sets vs. Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. – The William Peace volleyball team looked poised to give Meredith a run for their money Thursday night after tying the match, 1-1, with a win in the second set.  The Pacers ran out of gas down the stretch though dropping their home opener, 3-1.

Meredith (13-5, 6-1 USAS) came ready to play, hitting .353 as a team to down WPU in the first set, 25-19. However, the Pacers (5-15, 3-4 USAS) used four separate 3-0 runs in the second to win the set, 25-18.

Unfortunately, WPU laid an egg in the final two sets.  They hit -.148 in the third, -.152 in the fourth, and committed a combined 20 of their season high 31 attack errors. The Avenging Angels committed 19 attack errors the entire match.  The Pacers fell, 25-11, in the third and 25-15 in the fourth.

Laura Bland and Nicole Phillips both had nine kills to lead the team.  Bland also added nine digs and a block assist. Baylee Maughon had 15 assists while Lorena Fernandez added 14. Carson Williams had a team high 11 digs. Maddie Irvin had 9 digs and 5 service aces.  Merica Ivey tallied 6 block assists.

The Pacers will return to action this Saturday on the road against Huntingdon at 12:00 p.m. followed by LaGrange at 4:00 p.m.
