WPU Women's Basketball Wins Big at Mid-Atlantic Christian, 72-39

ELIZABETH CITY, NC –  The William Peace women's basketball team had a short turn around following an overtime loss the night prior, but the Pacers bounced back winning big over Mid-Atlantic Christian University Tuesday night, 72-39.

WPU improved to 2-3 after beating the Mustangs (0-8) for the second time this year.  The first was also in blowout fashion as MACU fell, 77-41, in the Pacer's 15th annual Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament last month.

The Pacers were sluggish out of the gates after a physical, hard fought game the night before, but they led from the opening basket and went on a 15 minute, 22-2, run for a 32-11 halftime lead and total control of the game.

William Peace shot 24-54 (44.4%) from the field, while going 21-29 (72.4%) from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Pacers held the Mustangs to only 21.8% from the field on 12-55 shooting. They also forced MACU to cough it up 25 times and scored 29 points off turnovers thanks to 18 steals.

Ka'la Jordan registered eight of the team's steals matching the schools single-game record. She also scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists.

Four Pacers reached double-figures led by Derrica Jones who had 14 points, a team high seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Brittany Boykin had 13 points, three rebounds, a pair of assists, a steal, and a blocked shot. Krystal Williams scored 12 to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Tamara Murphy added 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

The WPU women's basketball team will have a week and a half to rest before their next game. The Pacers travel to play Guilford College on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2:00 p.m.
