GREENSBORO, NC – The William Peace women's basketball team dug themselves an early hole they couldn't climb out of, as they fell to the Quakers of Guilford College, 78-47.
Guilford (7-2) went on a five minute, 19-0 run in the first half and pulled away for good. During the stretch, the Quakers went 8-9 from the field including 4-4 from beyond the arc helping them to a 46-21 lead at the half.
The Pacers (2-4) held Guilford to 35% shooting from the field in the second half after they went nearly 52.8% in the first, but their 25 point deficit was far too much to overcome. WPU shot only 16-63 (25.4%) from the field, 3-14 (21.4%) from long range, and 11-22 (50%) from the free-throw line. The Pacers were out-rebounded, 58-37, and committed 18 turnovers leading to 14 Guilford points.
Derrica Jones led the Pacers with her second double-double of the year. Jones had 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, a blocked shot, and a steal. Brittany Boykin scored a team high 15 points to go along with four rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Ka'la Jordan scored nine points with six rebounds and six assists.
The WPU women's basketball team has over three weeks off before playing their next game. The Pacers travel to play NC Wesleyan Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
