Staunton, VA. – The William Peace volleyball team traveled to face Mary Baldwin Thursday night where they turned in a record setting performance. The Pacers tied a school record hitting .447 as a team for a dominant three set win over the Fighting Squirrels: 25-9, 25-15, 25-8.
WPU has now won three straight matches improving their record to 8-15 overall and 6-4 in the USA South which puts them in solid shape to reach November's conference tournament. Mary Baldwin has yet to win a game this season. They are 0-20 and 0-10 in the USA South.
"We have worked hard on our defense and attacking in practice and it really showed tonight," said head coach Kevin Daniels "The most encouraging part of the match was limiting our errors…I am very proud of our team."
It was a well-balanced Pacers attack with Megan Mansfield recording a team high 10 kills to go along with a service ace, 5 digs, and 2 block solos. Tempestt Frazier had 9 kills and four block assists.
Outside hitters, Laura Bland and Nicole Phillips, both had particularly strong games as well. They notched 8 kills apiece both hitting at an unconscious .727 clip.
Baylee Maughon tallied 25 assists while Carson Williams led the Pacers with 14 digs.
The William Peace volleyball team will return to action with a pair of non-conference matches Saturday at the Hermann Athletic Center. They'll face Randolph at 1:00 p.m. followed by Salem at 5:00 p.m.
