CARY, NC – Playing their last home game of the season this afternoon, The William Peace women's soccer team tried their hand against N.C. Wesleyan. Unfortunately for the Pacers, it was the same story just a different game in more ways than one. Their offensive woes continued as they were shutout, 3-0, and they also picked up a red card for the third consecutive game.
"Unfortunately, the card completely changes the entire dynamic of the game," said head coach Keith Jenkins. "I don't think we came out quite ready to play though…we just didn't seem to have the same level of intensity and effort that we had been playing with in our last couple of games which hurt us."
The score was 0-0 at the break, but it was only a matter of time until the floodgates would open up with the WPU defense playing a man down from the 45th minute on. The Pacers (3-12-1, 1-8 USAS) offense was also unable to deliver any relief. They only managed one shot the entire contest compared to N.C. Wesleyan's 20.
The Bishops (7-5-1, 3-3-1 USAS) started off their scoring on a goal by Logan Bill in the 50th minute, assisted by Sarah Olsowski. The next goal came from the Bishops' Rebecca Staylor, assisted by Cissi Edehult. Staylor would later finish off the scoring in the 88th with another goal, this time unassisted as
WPU is starting to wind down their season with three games left, all on the road. The Pacers next play at Mary Baldwin on Oct. 24th. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
