CARY, N.C. – It was a dreary day in more ways than one at WakeMed Soccer Park as the William Peace women's soccer team fell to the Avenging Angels of Meredith College, 3-0.
A defensive miscue from the Pacers (3-10-1, 1-6 USAS) allowed Meredith to take a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute as Christa Jackson stole it away and took it in for an open goal.
The Pacers grinded it out the rest of the half with particularly strong play from Amber Arnold who had multiple goal preventing tackles, but Meredith (10-3-1, 8-0 USAS) struck right before the break as Danielle Lee found Rachel Didier for the score.
Jamison Kidd scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute for the final goal of the game.
It was a physical game with 28 fouls committed between both teams, and WPU was forced to play a man down after being assessed a red card on Kidd's penalty kick. The Pacers were outshot, 13-2, and took nine less corner kicks, but there were several positives to take away according to head coach Keith Jenkins.
"We beat ourselves a little bit at times, but I thought some of our players played the best they've played all year," Jenkins said. "Their first goal was unfortunate, and one of their goals was a penalty kick that shouldn't have happened, but if they gave that kind of effort for 90 minutes over all our games so far I think we could have several wins this year."
WPU women's soccer will return to WakeMed Soccer Park Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a 7:00 p.m. match against Greensboro College.
