Brian Yerger returns to the William Peace University Baseball staff for his second season. Previously to coaching at WPU, Yerger spent 8 seasons as the head baseball coach at Cary High School in Cary, NC. Coach Yerger will be taking on the role of assistant coach and head developmental coach, with a focus on coaching outfielders. He will also serve as the Pacers first base coach.
While at the helm at Cary, Coach Yerger oversaw many improvements to not only the team, but also the baseball facilities. He assisted in the matriculation of several former players who went on to play at the college level, with one of them even being drafted in the first round (22nd pick overall/Tampa Bay Rays) of the 2019 major league baseball draft. He worked to raise funds build a new press box, covered and lighted batting cage, brand new netted backstop, and full upgrades to the dugouts. He also implemented a program to bring back former alumni who played at the high school who went on to be drafted by various major league teams.
Before taking over at Cary High School, Coach Yerger spent 6 seasons coaching at various high schools in Montgomery County, Maryland. There he held various coaching responsibilities from head junior varsity coach for 4 seasons, assistant varsity coach for 6 seasons, head pitching and hitting coach.
Yerger is originally from the Harrisburg/Hershey area of Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Central Dauphin East High School in 1995. He went on to attend Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA, where he majored in education and graduated in 1999. He has spent the last 21 years working as a teacher at various grade levels. The most recent being the last 9 years as an American History Teacher at Cary High School.
Coach Yerger currently resides in Morrisville with his wife Amber and their son, Steeleton.
