Softball Splits Opening Day at The Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – William Peace softball opened play at The Spring Games on Tuesday, splitting a pair of games to move to 4-4 on the season.

In the opening game of the day, the Pacers fell to Blackburn College 4-2. Blackburn scored in the second inning before adding two runs in the third to go up 3-0. The Beavers later added another run in the fourth to extend the lead.

Peace made a late comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Sabrina Cox led off with a single and Jaylen Gonzalez followed with a walk to put two runners on. Madison Taylor delivered an RBI double to score Cox, and Kinley Jordan brought home another run with a ground out to cut the lead to 4-2.

Cox led the Pacers with two hits, while Isabelle Olson, Allison Burlew, and Taylor each added a hit. Kimberly Bordeaux struck out nine across six innings in the circle before Savannah Paul worked a scoreless seventh inning in relief.

William Peace bounced back in the second game of the day with a 4-2 victory over Buena Vista University.

The Pacers took the lead in the second inning when Cierra Lear delivered a two-run single to score Madison Taylor and Jaylen Gonzalez. Buena Vista answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Peace regained control in the third inning. Allison Burlew doubled to bring home Isabelle Olson before Reagan Stewart singled and later scored on an RBI single from Madison Taylor to give the Pacers a 4-2 lead.

Stewart earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five across five innings. Haley Joyce closed the game with two scoreless innings in relief.

Taylor led the offense with three hits, while Gonzalez recorded two hits and Burlew added a double and RBI. The Pacers finished the game with 10 hits.

William Peace returns to action at The Spring Games on Thursday, March 12 with two games. The Pacers will face the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 10 a.m. followed by North Central College at 2:30 p.m. in Clermont.
