RALEIGH, NC – William Peace men's tennis celebrated their lone senior, Patrick Buckler, before their match against Southern Virginia on Friday afternoon at Lions Park.
The Knights took early control with a sweep of doubles play. WPU's top pair Juliann Starland and Chapman Kinlaw fell 6-3 at No. 1, while Patrick Buckler and Carlos Correa dropped their match 6-1 on court two. Angel Araiza and Ivan Ponce put up a strong effort at No. 3 doubles but ultimately came up short, 6-4.
In singles, Southern Virginia maintained its momentum. Starland battled at the top spot but fell 6-0, 6-2 to Mason Pitcher. Araiza was blanked in straight sets at No. 2, and Buckler dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match at No. 3. Kinlaw (No. 4), Correa (No. 5), and Ponce (No. 6) each battled but were unable to bring out the win in their respective matches.
The loss moves the Pacers to 2-6 on the season. William Peace will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue through conference play.
