Pacers Overcome Five-Goal Deficit In Fourth Quarter To Win In OT

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – William Peace won its first women's lacrosse game of the season in a thriller.

Mary Langer scored the game-winning goal in overtime to cap a wild comeback by the Pacers in a 10-9 road win over Sweet Briar on Tuesday. The Pacers rallied from a five-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to pull off the victory.

Samantha Autry sparked the rally, scoring four of her game-high six goals in the fourth quarter. She scored three consecutive goals within a three-minute span in regulation to force the extra period.

Mary Langer scored on a free position shot with 1:48 left in OT to end the game in sudden death, giving the Pacers their first win in five contests. Sweet Briar fell to 2-6 overall.

The Pacers were 0-5 in free position shots prior to Mary Langer's attempt but she made it count.

The Pacers trailed 9-4 with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before starting their surge. They scored the last six goals of the contest.

Mary Langer finished the game with two goals while May Morgan and Keslee Hylton each added a goal for the Pacers, who held an 18-4 advantage in draw controls. Winning goalie Aryal Brandon totaled nine saves.

Autry scored the Pacers' first goal to tie the score at 1-1. The Pacers led 2-1 on May's goal of Elise Langer's assist and 3-2 on Autry's goal in the second quarter.

The Vixens reeled off five straight goals between the second and third quarters for a 7-3 lead. Hylton scored to cut the deficit to three, but the Vixens scored two goals early in the fourth quarter to push their lead to 9-4.

Victory appeared uncertain for the Pacers. Instead, it turned out to be a dramatic finish.

The Pacers are home on Friday, March 29, against Methodist in a USA South matchup. The start time is 2 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
