Pacers Blank Mary Baldwin 9-0 In USA South Men's Tennis Opener

STAUNTON, Va. – William Peace claimed an emphatic first win in men's tennis Sunday, shutting out Mary Baldwin on the road 9-0.

The match was the USA South season opener for the Pacers, who improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The Pacers won all six singles in two sets. Sam Jones won No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Ben Fleming won No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4. Angel Araiza claimed No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Patrick Buckler won No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Ivan Ponce won No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Donolique Tyrell captured No. 6 singles 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Jones and Fleming won 8-3, the No. 2 team of Buckler and Araiza won 8-1 and the No. 3 duo of Ponce and Tyrell was victorious 8-2.

The Pacers will host North Carolina Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 19, at Lions Park. The match will start at 2 p.m.
