Women's Basketball Falls To Guilford In Last Game Before Holiday Break

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Brene'a Daye scored 14 points and Zikira Henderson added 13 for William Peace in a 67-50 women's basketball loss to Guilford at Jack Jenson Court on Friday.

Both players finished with four steals for the Pacers (1-7 overall), who had 16 steals and forced 22 turnovers against the Quakers, who shot 35.7 percent. The trio of Ja'Naisja Baker, Alayna Randolph and Hannah Lewis each collected six rebounds.

Their defense could not overcome cold shooting, however. The Pacers were 21.5 percent from the floor, including 16.7 percent behind the three-point arc.

Guilford (8-1 overall), leading 19-15 after the first period, took advantage of the Pacers' shooting woes. Their last basket in the first period sparked a 16-0 run for an 18-point Quaker lead in the second period. The margin would reach 20 points before the Quakers entered halftime leading 38-24.

The Pacers were outscored 16-7 in the third period but finished strong in the fourth. Trailing by 23 points entering the fourth period, the Pacers outscored the Quakers 19-13 for the final margin.

"We didn't get the desired outcome tonight but our team fought extremely hard," WPU First-Year Head Coach Annalee Bollinger said. "The defensive intensity was fun to watch and we did some really good things offensively. Our record might not reflect it but we are getting better every single night."

The Pacers return to action after the holiday break. They visit Hollins in a non-conference game in Roanoke, Va., on Jan. 1, 2025. Game time is 2 p.m.
