Women's Soccer Hosts Defending Champion Southern Virginia Saturday

Gaby Vazquez Tallied Eight Saves Vs. JWU Charlotte Tuesday
RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace is back in action Saturday against the defending USA South champion.

The Pacers host Southern Virginia in women's soccer at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Admission is free to the women's soccer contest, which starts at 2:30 p.m.

Picked to repeat as conference champ, Southern Virginia (2-0-1 USA South, 3-4-3 overall) is currently atop the league standings. The Pacers will look to knock off the Knights behind the play of midfielder/forward Emma Avery and goalkeeper Gaby Vazquez.

Both players were stellar in a 1-1 non-conference tie against Johnson & Wales Charlotte at home Tuesday. Avery scored the game-tying goal in the second half while Vazquez recorded a season-high eight saves.

The Pacers' goals leader (5), Avery ranks sixth in points per game (1.67) and ninth in goals per game (.833) in the USA South. Vazquez leads the league in goals against average (.864) and saves percentage (.846).

This will be the second straight home game this week for the Pacers. The Knights haven't played since edging Meredith 3-2 at home last Saturday.
