Women's Soccer Routs Pfeiffer 4-1 For Second Straight Win

CARY, N.C. – William Peace is surging as the women's soccer regular season winds down.

Four players scored for the Pacers in a 4-1 USA South win over Pfeiffer at WakeMed Soccer Park on Tuesday. The Pacers are on a two-game win streak for the first time this season and are victors in three of their last four matchups.

The timing could not have been better. Sitting in seventh place, the Pacers (3-3 USA South, 5-4-2 overall) would be one of eight teams in the USA South Tournament if the season ended today. They are just below Meredith (3-3-1 USA South) and N.C. Wesleyan (3-3-1 USA South), both tied for fifth-place, with three regular season games remaining.

The Pacers defeated N.C. Wesleyan 2-1 on Oct. 8 and visit crosstown rival Meredith Oct. 30 in the regular-season finale.

On Tuesday, William Peace was one goal away from tying a season high. Emma Avery and Kerlyn Navarrete Trejos highlighted the Pacers with each player producing a goal and an assist, and Lyndsey Knox and Mia Rumachik each scored a goal. Dayna Kenworthy and Cate Czyzewski both tallied an assist.

Knox put the Pacers on the scoreboard with her season's first goal on Avery's assist nearly 10 minutes into the contest. Avery then scored her team-high seventh goal on Kenworthy's assist for a 2-0 lead.

The Pacers took a 2-1 lead into halftime after Pfeiffer (1-6 USA South, 3-10 overall) scored on a corner kick late in the first half.

William Peace put Pfeiffer away late in the second half. Mia Rumachik scored her second goal this season on an assist from Trejos to extend the lead to 3-1. Nine minutes later, Trejos scored her first goal at the 85th-minute mark on Czyzewski's assist for the final score.

Led by goalkeeper Gaby Vazquez, the Pacers held Pfeiffer scoreless after giving up a first-half goal. The Pacers outshot the Falcons 17-8 including 10-4 shots on goal.

The Pacers will look to stretch their win streak Thursday, Oct. 24, at first-place Brevard in a USA South game on Thursday, Oct. 24. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
