RALEIGH, NC -- The William Peace University Women's Basketball team faced Virginia Wesleyan in Raleigh, NC at the Hermann Athletic Center Monday, November 13th. It was a very competitive game for the Pacers and Marlins. The Pacers fought hard during the fourth quarter as they took a one point lead following a huge basket by Tanaesha Ellison with :25 seconds left in the game. After a massive defensive stop, Ja'Naisja Baker secured the rebound and knocked down two clutch free throws to put the Pacers up 56-53. With no timeouts remaining, Virginia Wesleyan brought the ball full court and had a 3 pointer go in and out as time expired. This is the 1st win at the helm for 1st year head coach Lori Drake.

The Marlins took the first quarter against the Pacers as they were ahead 18-9 when the quarter ended.

During the second quarter the Marlins scored 13 points, while the Pacers led the quarter with 17 points. This gave the Marlins a score of 31 and the Pacers a score of 26 at halftime.

The Pacers came out of the locker room on a mission - as they took control of the game in the 3rd quarter and went into the final frame with a one point lead 41-40.

The Pacers would continue to outscore the Marlins in the fourth as they scored a total of 15 points, while the Marlins only scored 13 points. The Pacers hit 2 clutch three pointers, their only makes from deep in the game, during back to back possessions to take an 8 point lead with 5 minutes remaining. This gave the Pacers the 56-53 win over the Marlins.

Tanaesha Ellison led the Pacers as she posted a double double in tonight's match-up. Ellison tallied 29 points and 15 rebounds against the Marlins. Ellison also totaled 6 steals and 4 blocks for the Pacers.

Nautica Smiley posted 6 points and 5 rebounds against the Marlins.
