Baseball Takes Down Averett In Game One

DANVILLE, VA – William Peace University defeated Averett University 16-9 in game one of the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pacers would get on the board first at the top of the second with a single from Cameron Butler bringing home Brett Kemp for a score of 1-0. Cole Robbins would drive in Butler for a 2-0 lead, while a triple from Kevin Gonzalez would score Robbins and bring the score to 3-0. The Cougars would cut the Pacer lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third, while Hunter Ward would score at the top of the 5th to put the Pacers ahead 4-2. 

Averett would cut the lead again in the bottom of the 5th for a score of 4-3. At the top of the 6th, Cole Robbins would bring in Jake Dacunto for a 5-3 lead, while Kevin Gonzalez would drive home Patrick Rogan for a 6-3 Pacer lead. A single from Hunter Ward at the top of the 7th would bring the score to 7-3, while a wild pitch would score Hunter Ward and put the Pacers up 8-3. Cameron Butler's double would bring in Patrick Rogan and Jake Dacunto for a 10-3 lead, with Kevin Gonzalez's single for a score of 11-3. The Cougars would rally back to cut the Pacer lead to 11-6 in the bottom of the 7th.

Jake Dacunto would single up the middle for a 12-6 lead at the top of the 8th, while Cole Robbins would bring in two for a 14-6 advantage. Logan Barbour would single to score Robbins and put the score at 16-6, while Brett Kemp's single would score two for an 18-6 lead. A wild pitch would bring in Hunter Ward and help secure the 19-6 win.
