Softball Splits Doubleheader With Crosstown Rival Meredith

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University softball split a conference matchup against Meredith College. The Pacers took game one 2-1, but would fall 8-7 in game two despite a late rally.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One

Meredith would get out to an early 1-0 lead at the top of the 1st, scoring on a single to center field. The Pacers would shut them down for the rest of the game, with pitcher Katherine Murphy staying solid in the circle as she allowed just 6 hits. The Pacers would get on the board in the bottom of the 6th as Logan Ayers would score on a throwing error to tie the game 1-1. Lauren Conway would put the Pacers up 2-1 as she hit one over the fence, and the Pacers would shut down Meredith at the top of the 7th to walk away with the win.

Game Two
At the top of the 2nd, Meredith would start strong to take a 2-0 lead on a few singles. At the top of the 3rd, the Avenging Angels would hit two home runs, including a grandslam, to take a big 8-0 lead. Adanya Day would get the Pacers on the board in the bottom of the 5th with her single to center field, scoring Emily Puckett and Preston Hawkins to bring the score to 8-2. The Pacers would continue their rally in the bottom of the 6th, with Anna Suggs bringing in Lauren Conway for a score of 8-3. A double from Nadia Pittman would drive in Megan McAnany to bring it to 8-4, with Pittman scoring on an error to bring it to 8-5. In the bottom of the 7th, Megan McAnany would single to bring in Adanya Day, with Lauren Conway scoring on a fielding error and putting the score at 8-7. The Pacers would be unable to complete the rally and would fall 8-7.

  • Lauren Conway went 1 for 2 in game one, notching the go ahead home run.
  • Adanya Day went 2 for 3 in game two with 2 RBIs.

  • F. Wimberly went 2 for 3 in game one with 1 RBI.
