Baseball Goes 2-0 Over Mary Baldwin In Commanding Wins

CARY, NC – William Peace University baseball defeated Mary Baldwin University in the first two games of a 3-game series. The Pacers won game one 22-0 and game two 14-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One

In the bottom of the first, a single from Brett Kemp would score Logan Barbour for a 1-0 lead. Jake Dacunto would drive in Hunter Ward to put the Pacers up 2-0. In the bottom of the 2nd, Keyon Green would double to score Jake Norris for a 3-0 lead. Logan Barbour would score Green for a 4-0 score, while a triple from Hunter Ward would bring in Nick Tyler to put the score at 5-0. Ward would score on a passed ball to put the Pacers up 6-0.

 In the bottom of the third, hits from Cameron Butler, Jake Norris, Kevin Gonzalez, Nick Tyler, and Hunter Ward would put the Pacers up 19-0 as Butler and Tyler each added two hits in the inning. In the bottom of the 5th, Griffin Sandstrum would single to left field to score Nick Tubolino and bring the score to 20-0. Ethan May would drive in Shy Thompson, while Hernan Ruedas would bring in Sandstrum to seal a 22-0 Pacer victory as pitcher Philip Berger shut-out the Fighting Squirrels with 15 strikeouts.

Game Two
Brett Kemp would again get the Pacers out to a 1-0 lead as his double to center field would bring in Hunter Ward. Jake Dacunto would drive in Kemp for a 2-0 score. In the bottom of the third, Sean Roseborough would bring in Kemp for a 3-0. Cole Robbins, Kevin Gonzalez, and Logan Barbour would each add an RBI in the third to put the score at 6-0. Mary Baldwin would add a run at the top of the 4th to cut the Pacer lead to 6-1.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Pacers would take a 11-1 lead on a few walked-in runs, before a single from Brett Kemp would put the score at 13-1. Mary Baldwin would add two runs at the top of the 6th for a 13-3 score. In the bottom of the 7th, Cole Robbins would drive in a run to put the Pacers up 14-3. The Fighting Squirrels would battle to add two runs at the top of the 8th, but the Pacers would come away with a 14-5 win.
