Softball Splits Nonconference Matchup With Ferrum

FERRUM, VA -- William Peace University softball split a doubleheader with Ferrum College, falling 8-7 in game one in extra innings, but coming out on top 4-3 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One


The Pacers would take an early 3-0 lead at the top of the first, with Dara Orr scoring on a fielder's choice situation, Lauren Conway scoring after a steal to second by Megan McAnany, and a single from Logan Ayers bringing in McAnany. At the top of the second, Emily Puckett would score on a wild pitch to bring the score to 4-0, while Lauren Conway would bring in Dara Orr for a 5-0 lead. Candice Smith would extend the Pacer lead to 6-0 at the top of the 4th.

The Panthers would begin their rally at the top of the 5th, adding a run to bring the score to 6-1. They would put up a big 6th inning to tie the game 6-6, and the game would head into extra innings after remaining tied 6-6 after seven innings. A single from Emily Puckett would bring in Logan Ayers to put WPU up 7-6 at the top of the 8th, but a few hits in the bottom of the inning would give the Panthers the 8-7 win.

Game Two
The Panthers would take an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, scoring on a fielder's choice and a single. At the top of the 3rd, the Pacers would score on a fielding error to tie the game 2-2. At the top of the 4th, a single from Anna Suggs would drive in Logan Ayers to put them up 3-2. Lydia Hunt would hit a double to left field to score Logan Ayers at the top of the 6th for a 4-2 lead. The Panthers would add one run in the bottom of the 7th, but the Pacers would hold them off to win 4-3.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Logan Ayers went 2 for 3 in game two.
  • Anna Suggs was 2 for 4 in game one and allowed just 2 earned runs in game two.
FOR THE FOES
  • L. Patterson went 3 for 4 in game one with 2 RBIs.
