Late Rally Sends #15 University of Lynchburg Over Pacers

CARY, NC -- William Peace University baseball fell 10-5 to #15 University of Lynchburg. The Pacers and Hornets battled back-and-forth through seven innings, but a few late opportunities and a grand slam would give the Hornets the victory over the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first two innings would be a battle between pitchers Philip Berger and J. Bachmore, with both notching one strikeout. At the top of the third, the Hornets would take a 1-0 lead after a single to center field from C. Lane would bring home C. Atkins.

In the bottom of the 4th, a single up the middle from Patrick Rogan would drive home Jake Dacunto to tie the game 1-1. At the top of the 5th, a deep hit to left center from C. Atkins would bring home C. Brimmer to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead. A single from C. Lane would score Atkins for a 3-1 advantage.

A single from Nick Tyler in the bottom of the 5th would bring home Cameron Butler to cut the Hornets' lead to 3-2. Jake Dacunto would drive in the tying run as Tyler scored to bring the score to 3-3.

A single up the middle from Cameron Butler would bring home Sean Roseborough to give the Pacers a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 6th. At the top of the 8th, a single from H. Fielder would tie the game 4-4. The Hornets would take a 5-4 lead on a balk, and a grand slam from C. Atkins would put them up 9-4. A. Neaves would drive home G. Collins at the top of the 9th to give the Hornets a 10-4 advantage. Patrick Rogan would double to bring home Hunter Ward in the bottom of the 9th, but the Pacers would fall 10-5.
