Women's Basketball Falls In Overtime To Spirits

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball fell to Salem College by a score of 92-83. The Pacers concluded their 2021-2022 season with an overall record of 3-21 and 2-16 in the USA South Conference play. The Pacers honored seniors Faith Resto, Shelby Wolfe, Cierra Baker, and Myla Barnes on their successful careers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would take an early 9-4 lead in the first quarter on free throws from Shelby Wolfe. A layup from Stephanie Chandler would put them up 15-8, with a 3-pointer from Cierra Baker and a few layups from Ninevah Reddick and Joslyn Ayers giving the Pacers a 24-8 lead after the first quarter.
  • The Spirits would fight back in the 2nd quarter, but a layup from Stephanie Chandler would keep WPU up 30-19. The Spirits would battle back within 5 as the Pacers led 32-27. A late run from Salem would send the game into halftime tied 39-39.
  • The Spirits would take a 49-46 lead in the third quarter, but a 3-pointer from Arianna Hamilton would put them ahead 52-49. A few late free throws from the Pacers would keep them up 57-51 heading into the 4th quarter.
  • A 3-pointer from Cierra Baker in the first 5 seconds of the 4th quarter would keep the Pacers up 60 -51. Both teams would go back-and-forth putting points on the board. Eventually the Spirits would battle hard to lower the Pacers' lead to 3 and end up tying the game 74-74 late to force an overtime period.
  • The Spirits would go on a run early in overtime to lead 82-77. A layup from Myla Barnes would cut the lead to 84-80, but Salem would put up a few good stops and some final free throws to take a 92-83 win.
