RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University Men's Soccer will open up their regular season on the road today at 7PM against Johnson & Wales. The Pacers had a record-breaking season in the Spring of 2021, going 6-2-2 overall and making it to the USA South East Division Championship, which also marked the first time in school history that a men's athletic program had made an appearance in a tournament finale.
The Pacers have several notable returners, and their roster includes eight seniors: Jacob Smith, Nathan Seery, Sammy Suazo, Jorge Aguilar, Archie Filliter, Ivan Ponce, Kieron Williams, and Alfonso Turcios. Aguilar led the team last year with 5 assists in the shortened season, and the team also returns sophomore Jorge Lemus, who led the team with 4 goals.
Coach Ryan Huber, who is entering his fifth season as the Head Men's Soccer Coach, "I am really excited about our group this year. We had a great spring where we fell just short in the Division Finals. The guys have come back focused and prepared to take the next step as a program this Fall and compete for a conference championship!"
This marks the first matchup against Johnson & Wales for the Pacers. The Wildcats began the season 2-2, most recently taking a 1-0 victory over Bluefield. Billy Esparza-Diaz and Juan Santana Urieta both lead the team with 2 goals each.
Following the game against the Wildcats, the Pacers will head to Regent University on September 16th. Their first home game will take place on September 25th against Warren Wilson. USA South Conference play will begin on October 2nd against Greensboro College.
