Pacers Fall In Close Match-Up With Monarchs

Cary, NC -- William Peace University men's lacrosse fell by a single goal to Methodist University in a hard-fought loss with a final score of 16-15. The first half would be evenly matched as both teams went into the second half tied at 9-9. The Monarchs would come out on top as they would be able to scoop up 1 more goal over the Pacers as they finished 16-15.

THE BASICS

  • Location: Cary, NC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would start the game off strong as Scout Philipp would net the first goal of the game. The Monarchs would quickly respond with goals from Kit Allman and Matt Pemberton, making the score 2-1. The Pacers would not shy away from the competition as two goals from Devin Noonan and Nick Falso would put the Monarchs back on their heels. In the final 5 minutes of the first period, 3 goals were scored. Two of the goals would come from Carter Favreau and Tyler Bennett of the Monarchs. The final goal would be from Riely Murray of the Pacers as he tied the game up 4-4 going into the second period.
  • In the second period, the game would be evenly matched as goals were scored back-and-forth between the two opposing teams. Scout Philipp would get the period started with a goal for a 5-4 Pacer lead, but Methodist's Carter Favreau would respond soon enough with a goal of his own. The half would end 9-9 with goals for the Pacers coming from Brewer Warlick, Scout Philipp, Devin Noonan, and Nick Falso; and goals for the Monarchs coming from Hunter Vaughan (2), Mark Chatt, and Jesse Leyble. 
  • Jake Bandler would get things going early for the Monarchs as he scored 9 seconds into the third period. John Harvey-Turner would tally the equalizer for the Pacers to tie it 10-10 The period would end in a 12-12 tie as neither side would be able to gain an advantage going into the fourth and final period. 
  • The first goal of the fourth period would be from the Monarchs' Kit Aliman but would soon be equalised by the Pacers' Nick Falso. Back-to-back goals for the Monarchs (Carter Favreau and Hunter Vaughan) would put the Monarchs up by 2 giving them leverage for the rest of the game. Riely Murray would respond with a goal of his own to close the gap as the Pacers trailed 15-14. 3 minutes later, Mark Chatt would give the Monarchs a 16-14 lead with only 3:32 left in the game. A goal from Nick Falso would bring it back within one for the Pacers, but they would still fall short as the Monarchs would secure  the victory 16-15.
