Volleyball Stays Perfect In Conference Play With Win Over Averett

Danville, VA -- William Peace University Volleyball overcame Averett University 3-1 in a well-fought victory. The first set was taken by the Cougars, but the Pacers would win the next three sets to come out with a victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One (25-22)
Averett would get the first point of the game with a kill from Lanie Ouzts. The set would remain evenly matched from there until the Cougars would go on a 9-4 run making the score 12-16 in favor of the Cougars. The Pacers would try to fight their way back into the set but a kill from Zamyiah Mangum would seal the set victory for the Cougars with a final score of 25-22.

Set Two (25-22)
In the second set, a kill by Brienna Laskowski would get the Pacers on the board first. The Pacers would go onto multiple 2-3 point runs extending their lead over the Cougars. The Cougars would fight hard to reach the Pacers, but would fall short as the Pacers would not let off of the gas. A kill by Nancy Gamewell would be all the Pacers needed to win the second set with a score of 25-22.

Set Three (25-21)

The third set would start off evenly matched with both teams scoring back-and-forth. An attack error by Landis Limon would bring the Cougars ahead with a score of 10-8. The Pacers would respond with a 7-point run to bring the Pacers to a 5-point lead, making the score 18-13. An attack error by Sarah Shropshire would push the Pacers to their 25th point, giving the Pacers the victory in the 3rd set, with a final score of 25-21. 

Set Four (25-20)

The Pacers would bring that energy into the fourth set as the Pacers clutch the first 2 points of the set. Averett would continue to hold their own as the score would remain really close for a good portion of the set. The Pacers would soon go onto a 4-point run to give the Pacers a small lead, however it would not last long as the Cougars would come back to tie it up at 13-13. One more 3-point run from the Pacers would give the Pacers the win as they would finally break away from the Cougars with a final score of 25-20.

  • Lauren Montren led the Cougars with 14 kills, while Zamyiah Mangum tallied 13.
  • McKenzie Miller tallied 47 assists.
