Fourth Period Surge Propels Pride Past Pacers

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's lacrosse fell to Greensboro College by a score of 17-9. The Pacers and the Pride would be tied 8-8 near the end of the third period, but a few last-minute goals and a surge in the 4th would propel the Pride past WPU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Greensboro would get the first goal of the game with Spencer Kontoulas finding the back of the net to lead 1-0. Nick Falso would quickly tie things up 1-1 just 16 seconds late, while a goal by Riely Murray, assisted by Patrick Calhoun, would give WPU a 2-1 lead. Kuleul Moore would make several good saves to keep the Pride off the scoreboard, with Murray adding another goal at 4:36 to increase the lead to 3-1.
  • The Pride would cut at the Pacer lead with an early second period goal, but Cade McGrady would give the Pacers a 4-2 lead moments later. Greensboro would continue to pressure the WPU defense, tying the game 4-4. Brewer Warlick would regain the Pacer lead to bring the score to 5-4, but the Pride would again tie the game 5-5. August Bynum would find the back of the net on the man-up, assisted by Nick Falso, as the Pacers led 6-5. Falso would add his own goal with just three seconds remaining to bring the score to 7-5.
  • Pride goalie Christopher Stalling would make some key saves early in the third period as the Pride attempted to chip away, with Austin Abourjilie's goal bringing the score to 7-6. August Bynum would score his second of the game, with the Pride countering again just twenty seconds later to bring the score to 8-7 in favor of the Pacers. The Pride would score three in a row at the end of the third to lead 10-8, with Brewer Warlick's goal bringing the score to 10-9. Abourjilie would tally another with just five seconds remaining to give the Pride an 11-9 lead.
  • The Pride would hold all the momentum in the final period, with Abourjilie scoring twice and Davis Miller scoring once early to increase the Pride lead to 14-9. Greensboro would add three more goals in the final period while shutting down the Pacer offense to secure a 17-9 victory.
