Pacers Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Monarchs

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's lacrosse fell to Methodist University in a close 16-11 contest.

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 11, Methodist 16
  • Records: William Peace (2-7, 0-3), Methodist (4-3, 2-1)
  • Location: Fayetteville, NC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would get the ball rolling early in the first period, with Brewer Warlick finding the back of the net, assisted by Riely Murray. The Monarchs would tie things up 1-1 moments later, before adding another two quick goals to lead 3-1. Methodist goalie Cameron Blink would make several key saves as the Monarch offense continued to put the Pacers in a deficit, taking a 7-1 lead after the first period.
  • In the second period, Scout Philipp and Brewer Warlick would begin to chip away at the Monarchs' lead, adding two early goals as the Pacers trailed 7-3. Philipp would add his second of the night to cut the Monarch lead in half, but Methodist would continue to fire at the net to lead 10-4 heading into halftime.
  • Brewer Warlick would continue his scoring streak in the third as the Pacers trailed 11-5. Nick Shelton would stand strong in net as the Monarchs attempted to score on the man-up advantage. Scout Philipp would add another as WPU trailed 13-6, but the Monarchs would tally three more goals to take a 16-6 lead heading into the final period. 
  • The Pacers would shut out the Monarchs in the final period, with Nick Falso scoring twice and Brewer Warlick, Riely Murray, and Devin Noonan each adding a goal as the Pacers attempted to rally back. WPU would be unable to catch up despite a great effort, and would fall 16-11.
