Pacers Fall In Non-Conference Doubleheader To NCWC

Cary, NC -- William Peace University baseball fell in a doubleheader contest to NC Wesleyan College. The Battling Bishops would get on the board early in both games, and the Pacers were unable to recover, falling 6-5 in game one and 7-1 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE
1st through 4th - The Battling Bishops would get off to a hot start at the top of the first, scoring two early runs to lead 2-0. In the bottom of the first, Tyshawn Barrett would steal second to get in scoring position and would score stealing home after NCWC would catch Jackson May in a pickle, bringing the score to 2-1. At the top of the 4th, NCWC would add another run to lead 3-1.

5th through 7th - NCWC would get runners in the corners at the top of the 5th before a single by Pennington would increase their lead to 4-1. A sacrifice fly would add one more for the Battling Bishops in that inning to lead 5-1. The Pacers would be unable to get any momentum as NCWC would score again at the top of the 6th, bringing the score to 6-1. Nathan Holt would score in the bottom of the 6th after a single from Tyshawn Barrett as the Pacers trailed 6-2. The Pacers would get the bases loaded, with walks for Hunter Ward and Logan Barbour bringing in two more runs to close the gap to 6-4. The Pacers would get three quick outs at the top of the seventh, getting the bases loaded in the bottom. A sacrifice fly from Tyshawn Barrett would close the gap to just one, but the Pacers were unable to add any more runs and would fall 6-5.

GAME TWO
1st through 4th - The Pacers would take control in the first inning, putting up a quick three outs with Austin Skipper on the mound. However, NCWC would capitalize at the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead over the Pacers. NCWC would add another run at the top of the third on a single to increase their advantage to 5-0.

5th through 7th - At the top of the 5th, a single through the left side would bring the score to 6-0 as NCWC would continue to keep the Pacers off the board. In the bottom of the 6th, Nathan Holt would score on a sacrifice fly as the Pacers trailed 7-1. This would be the last scoring play of the game, which would finish 7-1 in favor of NCWC.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • D. Morgan went 1 for 3 at the plate in game one, recording 2 RBIs.C. Davis was on the mound for 3 innings in game one, notching 6 strikeouts and allowing 1 run.
  • C. Dibenedetto pitched all 7 innings for NCWC, tallying 6 strikeouts and allowing just one run.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will head to Misenheimer, NC to take on the Pfeiffer Falcons on March 18th. The first pitch is scheduled for 4PM!
