Pacers Defeat NCWC 3-1

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University Volleyball defeated NC Wesleyan for their second win in a row as they improved to 2-0 in the USA South Athletic Conference. The Pacers fell in set one, but were able to come back to win three tough sets to take a 3-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One (20-25)
In the first set, the Battling Bishops would take an early 2-0 lead. The Pacers would tie everything up 5-5, with a service ace by Hannah Collier given them an 8-7 lead. WPU would go on a 6-point run as Bergin Gillespie collected a few aces, and Brittany Carpenter and Brienna Laskowski added kills to give the Pacers a 14-8 lead. NCWC would tie the set 16-16, before a few aces and attack errors would give them a 20-16 lead. They would get four in a row on a few kills by Callie Cline, with Cline notching the final kill to win the set 25-20 and lead the game 1-0.

Set Two (25-15)
The Battling Bishops would again grab an early lead in the second set before the Pacers were able to go on a 5-point run to take a 6-3 advantage. Hannah Collier and Brienna Laskowski would add a few kills to increase the lead to 13-6, while three consecutive service aces by Bergin Gillespie would increase the Pacer lead to 17-8. NCWC would add a few points, but a final kill by Hannah Collier would secure a 25-15 win to tie the game 1-1.

Set Three (25-23)
NCWC would take a 4-1 lead at the start of set three. The Pacers would go on a 6-point run to tie things up and then take a 12-9 lead, with a few service aces by Hannah Collier and a kill by Landis Limon. The Battling Bishops would tie things up at 15-15 before the Pacers would again go on a 5-point run to lead 21-17. The end of the set would be close as NCWC came back within one to train 24-23, but a kill by Brittany Carpenter would finish the set 25-23 and give the Pacers a 2-1 lead.

Set Four (25-13)
The Pacers would be dominant in the final set, with kills from Shelby Cooper and Landis Limon giving them a 6-4 lead. A quick 4-point run would increase the lead to 13-6 as Brittany Carpenter, Brienna Laskowski, and Landis Limon tallied kills, before two service aces by Bergin Gillespie would bring the score to 16-8. Another 4-point run would give the Pacers a ten-point advantage at 22-12, with a service ace by Logan Moore ending the set 25-13 and giving the Pacers the 3-1 win.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Michaela Seawell led the Battling Bishops with 11 kills and 17 digs.
  • Sloan Martin tallied 36 assists.

  • The Pacers notched 19 service aces in comparison to 5 from NCWC.
