Pacers Swing Bats Well But Drop DH to Belmont Abbey

Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University softball team dropped a doubleheader contest to Belmont Abbey against by scores of (4-3) and (12-6). The Pacers had four home runs on the day (Candice Smith x2, Reanna Braswell, and Lauren Conway) in addition to some great appearances at bat, but were unable to overcome a few strong innings from Belmont Abbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One 
The Pacers would start out strong at the top of the first, getting three quick outs. Lauren Conway would bring Emily Puckett home in the bottom of the first with a home run hit to put WPU up 2-0. Belmont Abbey would come in hot at the top of the second, scoring three to take a 4-2 lead. Neither team would get much going until the bottom of the sixth, when a double by Preston Hawkins would score Catherine Palmer to put the Pacers within one, but WPU would ultimately fall 4-3 to Belmont Abbey.
 
Game Two
Belmont Abbey would take an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with a 2 RBI home run. The Pacers would respond with their own 2 RBI home run in the bottom of the 1st from Candice Smith to tie the game 2-2. Reanna Braswell would score Kristina Mojica moments later on another home run to take a 4-2 lead. Belmont Abbey would put up a huge second inning with a few doubles to take an 8-4 lead. Candice Smith would hit her second home run of the game in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 8-6. Belmont Abbey would continue to push the Pacer defense for the remainder of the innings, scoring on a few singles and errors to win by a score of 12-6. 

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Katherine Murphy pitched all 7 innings in game one, recording 3 strikeouts and allowing 4 runs.
  • Lauren Conway notched a home run in game one as she went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs.
  • Candice Smith was 2 for 4 in game two, recording 4 RBIs and 2 home runs.
FOR THE FOES
  • A. Browne pitched 4 innings for Belmont Abbey, tallying 2 strikeouts and allowing no runs and 5 hits in game two.
  • K. Allison tallied 2 RBIs and one home run in game two.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will take on Barton College on February 13th at 12PM.
