William Peace Secures #2 Seed In East Division As Cross And Baker Propel Pacers Past Monarchs

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball swept Methodist University with their second win of the weekend by a score of 105-80. This concludes the regular season for the Pacers and secures them the #2 seed in the East Division of the USA South. Tournament play will begin March 3rd.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauryn Cross would begin her impressive night just a few seconds into the game as a fastbreak in the paint put the Pacers up 2-0. Cierra Baker would drain a shot from behind the arc to establish a 5-4 Pacer lead, with two 3-pointers and a jumper by Jaymesha Sanders bringing the score to 13-7 in favor of WPU. A fastbreak by Maria DeVincenzo would keep the Pacers in the lead 18-11, while a few made free throws by Cross would send the Pacers into the second quarter leading 26-19.
  • Cierra Baker would continue with her outstanding performance as she would net an early 3-point shot, with Lauryn Cross following up Baker's shot with her own 3-pointer to give WPU a 32-23 advantage. Baker would add another 3-pointer, with a drive by Sydney Austin bringing the score to 41-28. Pamela Mock and Kiera Williams would both add a few points in the paint, with a drive by Williams giving the Pacers a 52-31 lead heading into halftime.
  • At the beginning of the 3rd quarter, Cierra Baker would drain two consecutive shots from behind the arc to bring the score to 55-33. Jaymesha Sanders would get two layups within the span of a minute to increase the Pacer lead to 30 points as they led 66-36. A final jumper by Kiera Williams and a few made free throws by Methodist would bring the score to 76-53 in favor of the Pacers heading into the final quarter.
  • Lauryn Cross and Cierra Baker would both add some early points at the start of the final quarter, with Cierra Baker later driving in the paint for two to increase the Pacer lead to 85-65. A 3-point shot by Maria DeVincenzo would bring the score to 91-67, while a layup by Nautica Falls would send the Pacers into triple digits as they led 100-76. A few final points by Falls would secure a 105-80 win for the Pacers.

  • Lauryn Cross led the team with 24 points as she went 7 for 10 from the field.
  • Cierra Baker tallied 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists.
FOR THE FOES
  • Kadie Snipes led the Monarchs with 20 points.
