CARY, NC -- The William Peace University women's soccer team picked up a convincing 4-0 win over Averett University on Sunday afternoon. The Pacers now move to 2-1 and 1-1 in USA South play.
The Pacers would come out and set the tempo from the start of the game. Shaelyn Webb would create the first opportunity of the game three minutes into the game but her shot would go wide. Five minutes later Raine Greene would score her first of two goals as she would tuck away a rebound off of her own shot. Greene's fourth goal of the season would give the Pacers a 1-0 lead at the 8:06 mark. William Peace would control possession in the first half but would not create many scoring opportunities until the 26th minute when Shaelyn Webb would regain possession at midfield and would then make great run and beating 4 Averett defenders on her way into the box, Webb would show great composure and slot her shot into the bottom left corner to give the Pacers 2-0 lead. Neither team would have any more scoring opportunities in the remainder of the first half as the Pacers would go into halftime leading 2-0.
It would not take long for the Pacers to widen their lead as Shaelyn Webb would find space on the left wing and send in a dangerous cross across the six yard box,Raine Greene would make a great run into the center of the six and give the Pacers a 3-0 lead at the 49:23 mark. Katri Kakko would give Averett their best scoring opportunity of the game as she would find some space outside the 18 yard box and strike a shot of the cross bar. Averett would start to build some momentum as the second half went on as they connected more in the midfield. The momentum would however switch over as William Peace all but sealed the game as Haley Hinton would win the ball in the Cougars defensive third and slot Kyra Delaney through at the 18 yard box, Delaney would calming tuck away the Pacer's fourth goal of the game with a little over 10 minutes remaining. The Pacers would finish the game with a flurry of chances but the Cougar's keeper Alyson Kinkopf would make three saves in the final 10 minutes. The Pacers would go on to win by a final score of 4-0.
