Softball Drops Doubleheader To #2 Virginia Wesleyan

Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University softball team dropped a doubleheader contest to a tough Virginia Wesleyan opponent. The Marlins put up two strong defensive games to take a 9-0 win and a 10-0 win, despite a great effort from the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One 
Virginia Wesleyan would get on the board early at the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Pitcher Makenzie Ward would be in the circle for 4.2 innings, recording 3 strikeouts against a strong batting lineup from the Marlins. Marlins' pitcher Hannah Hull, who holds the ODAC record for most career strikeouts, would record an impressive 15 strikeouts in 7 innings. Despite strong efforts from the Pacer defense, the Marlins would take a 9-0 win.
 
Game Two
The Marlins would again take an early lead at the top of the second with some strong at bats as they led 2-0. Katherine Murphy would put in a good performance in the circle for the Pacers, with Marlins' pitcher Emily Seale holding the Pacers off of the scoresheet. Singles from Raynee Reddington and Erica James would get the Pacers in scoring position in the bottom of the 3rd, but the Marlins would put up a strong defense to keep WPU off the scoreboard. Virginia Wesleyan would continue to have success at the plate, taking a 10-0 victory over the Pacers.
