Pacers Open Conference Play With Win Over Defending Conference Champions

Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University men's soccer team opened conference play with a win over NC Wesleyan College, the defending USA South Conference Champions. The Pacers now move to 1-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.

In the first half, neither team was unable to come up with a good scoring opportunity. Neither goalie would be tested as it would be a defensive battle with both back lines playing a solid first half.

Reid Taylor would draw a penalty kick at 52:29 with Jorge Aguilar stepping up to take the penalty kick. NC Wesleyan's goalkeeper would come up big with the save but give up the rebound, which Aguilar would take advantage of to put the Pacers up 1-0. With neither team getting into a rhythm, there would be three yellow cards in the second half. The back line of WPU would continue their extraordinary play as they would hold NCWC with goalkeeper Jacob Smith conserving the clean sheet.

The Breakdown: The Foes:
  • Dom Giovannini and Jack Holden each had a shot on goal for the Battling Bishops.
