Pacers Fall In Opener To Defending ODAC Champions

LYNCHBURG, VA -- The Pacers fell 76-59 to the University of Lynchburg, the defending ODAC champions. The Hornets were 11-1 in the Spring 2021 season, eventually securing the ODAC championship over Roanoke, proving to be a good match-up for the Pacers in their season opener. 

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 59, Lynchburg 76

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would start out strong in the first quarter, with a few free throws from Ninevah Reddick putting them up 7-6. A layup from Kiera Williams would put them up 11-6, but the Hornets would battle back to lead 14-13. A few free throws and a 3-point shot would give the Hornets a 19-13 advantage, with a late shot from behind the arc from Arianna Hamilton sending the game into the 2nd with a score of 19-16.
  • The Hornets would go on a strong run in the 2nd, taking a 29-16 lead before the Pacers were able to get a stop. Kiera Williams would bring the Pacers back within 8 as they trailed 29-21, but the Hornets would start to pull away as they battled under the net to lead 38-26. A final shot from the foul line from Nautica Falls would send the game into halftime with the Pacers trailing 38-27.
  • In the third quarter, a few free throws from Pamela Mock would keep the Pacers within ten as they trailed 42-32. The Hornets would go on a strong run to lead 51-34. Mock would continue to be strong for the Pacers, drawing a late foul and going 2-2 from the line to end the 3rd quarter as the Pacers trailed 55-41.
  • The final quarter would be the strongest performance for the Hornets, with the team taking a 64-45 advantage over the Pacers. A few jumpers by Arianna Hamilton and Joslyn Ayers would keep the Pacers in the game, but the team would ultimately fall 76-59 to the Hornets.

  • Pamela Mock led the Pacers with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
  • Kiera Williams notched a double-double with 10 rebounds and 13 points.
FOR THE FOES
  • Sammi Sever led the Hornets with 19 points, while Sarah Johnson added 9 rebounds.
