Men's Lacrosse Falls to Shenandoah in Season Opener

The William Peace University men's lacrosse team fell (20-8) to Shenandoah University on February 8th, 2020.

THE BASICS
  • Final score: Game One: William Peace 8, Shenandoah 20
  • Records: William Peace (0-1), Shenandoah (1-0)
  • Location: Winchester, VA

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets would strike first early in the 1st period as Logan Clingerman's goal would give them a (1-0) advantage. Goalie Nick Shelton would make a few good saves to keep the Pacers within 1, and Brewer Warlick would tie it (1-1) as the Pacers went man-up. The Hornets would answer quickly as Devon Weaver's goal regained the lead (2-1). Tre Galligan would answer for the Pacers less than a minute later to tie it (2-2). Nick Falso would give the Pacers a (3-2) lead, but Shenandoah would find a way to tie the game (3-3) late in the first. Logan Clingerman would tally his 2nd of the period (4-3), before Drew Kagdis and Devon Weaver's goals would make it (6-3) in favor of the Hornets. Jay Baker would add one more with a few seconds left to give the Hornets a (7-3) lead heading into the 2nd.
  • Brewer Warlick would cut the Hornet lead (7-4), but Logan Clingerman's third of the game would quickly follow (8-4). Patrick Williams would again give WPU some life as his goal brought the score to (8-5). Chris Baker would add his 2nd of the game (9-5), with Antonio Caffi's goal bringing the score to (10-5) heading into the half.
  • Jay Baker and Cole Hammel would score quickly in the 3rd to give the Hornets a dominant (12-5) lead over the Pacers. Tyler Held's goal would increase the lead to (13-5), while Chris Baker would notch his 3rd as the Hornets led (14-5). Brewer Warlick and Nick Falso scored for the Pacers as they went into the 4th period trailing (14-7).
  • Shenandoah continued to control the game as Antonio Caffi and Devon Weaver tallied again to bring the score to (16-7). Caffi would continue to roll as he scored yet again for the Hornets (17-7). Chris Baker would add two more, once while man-up (19-7), with Jay Baker adding the last goal for the Hornets (20-7). Brewer Warlick would score his 4th of the game, but the Pacers were unable to make up the early deficit and would fall (20-8).

  • Goalie Jason Simpson tallied 11 saves. 
  • Chris Baker added 4 goals and 3 assists.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Shenandoah tallied 69 shots in comparison to WPU's 30.
  • Shenandoah notched 58 ground balls in comparison to WPU's 29.

NEXT GAME
The Pacers will host Marymount University for their home opener on February 16th. Gametime is scheduled for 5:30 PM at Ting Park in Holly Springs, NC.
