Pacers Shut out Mary Washington Behind Peddycord's Complete Game

The William Peace University baseball team started their 3-game series with University of Mary Washington with an (11-0) win.

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 11, University of Mary Washington 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers started off the game with a strikeout by Sam Peddycord, and would get out of the top of the inning with a routine pop-up for the third out. Gavin Taylor singled to third to start the bottom of the first. Nathan Holt bunted to advance Taylor to second and put him in scoring position. Tyshawn Barret reached first base on a fielder's choice, and Taylor was out at third. Tate Proctor singled to advance Barrett to second. Hunter Ward was walked to load the bases. Logan Barbour hit a 2 RBI single to put the Pacers up (2-0). The inning would end with a fly out to right field. In the top of the third inning, Peddycord tallied another strikeout on the day and the Pacers had a 3 up 3 down inning. The Eagles of UMW responded by having their own 3 up 3 down inning. 
  • The score would remain (2-0) until the bottom of the 4th, when Alec Seaton hit a single to left field to drive Logan Barbour home and bring the score to (3-0). Gavin Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Nate Holt hit a 2 run RBI on a fielder's choice to send Alec Seaton and Jackson May home. The Pacers continued to dominate from behind the plate in the bottom of the 5th with Tate Proctor starting off the inning with a base hit to center field and Hunter Ward with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Logan Barbour flied out to right field to send Proctor home. Jake Norris also flied out to send a run home to bring the score to (7-0).  The Pacers forced a pitching change at the start of the bottom of the 6th. Tyshawn Barrett had a sac fly to send Nathan Holt home to put the Pacers up (8-0). Sam Peddycord took care of business on the mound by continuing to pitch a shutout through the 8th.
  • Tyshawn Barrett continued his dominance from the plate by tripling to left field and sending Nathan Holt and Gavin Wheeler home to extend the lead (10-0). Then, on a wild pitch, Tyshawn Barrett took home (11-0). The Eagles of Mary Washington had no response and Sam Peddycord dominated from the mound by pitching a shutout complete game.

  • C. Hague was 2 for 4 at the plate.
  • C. Gabriele pitched 5 innings, allowing 7 runs while tallying 1 strikeout.

NEXT GAME
The Pacers will host a double-header against University of Mary Washington to close out the 3-game series on February 23rd at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Game one is scheduled for 11AM.
