The William Peace University men's basketball team fell to Averett University (74-69) on January 17th, 2020. The Pacer defense was challenged early in the first half as the Cougars took a commanding (20-8) lead.
Donolly Tyrell Jr.,
Trey Bryant, and
Beau Bryant would bring the Pacers back into the game as they trailed (35-26) heading into halftime. In the second half,
Camden Ferguson and
John Burwell cut down at the Cougar lead, with
Trey Bryant bringing the score within 3 (41-38). The Pacers continued to cut down the Averett lead but were unable to come back from the early deficit and would fall (74-69).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars would get an early jump in the game as Timothy Henry tallied 8 early points to give Averett an (10-2) advantage. A layup by John Burwell would chip away at the lead as the Pacers trailed (14-6). The Cougars continued to have the edge in the early game as they took a 12-point lead over the Pacers (20-8).
- A shot from behind the arc by Beau Bryant and a layup by Josh Hubert would give the Pacers some life as they trailed (22-13). Donolly Tyrell Jr. cut the Cougar lead down to (29-21), while a 3-pointer by Trey Bryant would bring the score to (29-24). Both teams would add a few more near the end of the first half, with Averett taking a (35-26) lead heading into halftime.
- Camden Ferguson would get the second half started for the Pacers as his shot from behind the arc brought the score to (35-29). A few free throws by John Burwell would cut Averett's lead down to (41-31), with another 3-pointer by Camden Ferguson and a layup by Trey Bryant bringing the Pacers within 3 (41-38). Bryant would add another free throw as the Cougars continued to lead (48-45).
- The Pacers continued to roll late in the second half, with a free throw by Donolly Tyrell Jr. bringing the score to (56-50) in favor of the Cougars. The Cougars would not let up despite good pressure from the Pacers and would go on to win (74-69).

- Isaiah Jones added 15 points, while Timothy Henry tallied 14.
