Bridgewater, VA -- The William Peace University men's soccer team started their regular season off with a win on the road in a hard fought battle against the Bridgewater Eagles. The Pacers now improve to a record of 1-0-0.

The first half of the game was a back and forth battle for possession. Sophomore Ivan Ponce would get the first chance of the game just two minutes in, but Bridgewater found the back of the net first at 25:51 on a goal from freshman Alex Martinez to lead 1-0. Sophomore keeper Jacob Smith was sharp in the first half, with three saves for the Pacers.

WPU would put the pressure on in the beginning of the second half, with consecutive shots from Andres Lopez, Angel Ramirez, and Ivan Ponce, forcing Bridgewater keeper Colin Rouaud to make some dynamic saves. The Pacers would maintain possession for much of the second half, with Jose Garcia tying it up 1-1 with 18:05 remaining in the game.

In extra time, WPU's Ivan Ponce would get the first chance just 49 seconds in. The Pacers would continue to battle hard, and Sammy Suazo would get WPU the win with just over five minutes remaining in the game after Jorge Aguilar found him for the golden goal game winner.
