WPU Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Methodist

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace - 4  Methodist - 2
  • Game 2: William Peace - 2  Methodist - 3
  • Records: William Peace 13-14  Methodist 8-26
  • Location: Fayetteville, NC

Game 1:
  • The Pacers got the game rocking in the top of the third inning as Nadia Pittman opened the inning with a single through the left side. Emily Puckett followed with a triple to right center, scoring Pittman. Candice Smith drilled a sac fly deep to center field to score Puckett. The Pacers would take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Pacers took a 3-0 advantage in the top of the fifth inning as Nadia Pittman homered to start the lineup.
  • In the top of the seventh inning, Kristen Bailly singled to right center for an RBI.
  • The Monarchs made a last chance effort in the bottom of the seventh inning as they loaded the bases and scored two runs off of a Pacer error.
  • The Pacers would get out of the seventh inning after the second run was scored to win the game, 4-2.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Samantha Jacobs finished with one hit.
  • Bethany Junker and Blythe Best both finished with one hit and one RBI each.

Game 2:
  • The Pacers opened the first inning on top beginning with a single from Candice Smith. Smith would steal second and advance to third on a ground out from Kristen Bailly. Lauren Conway would reach on a fielding error and Smith would score to give the Pacers a 1-0 advantage.
  • The following innings would prove to be a pitcher's duel up until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Monarchs loaded the bases. A single from Bethany Junker would tie the game to send the Pacers into extra-innings.
  • In the top of the eighth inning, with runners in scoring position, Kelsey Durham would reach on a throwing error by the short stop, scoring Skylar Conklin.
  • Trailing by one, the Monarchs would make a comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning as Hannah Key would hit a two RBI double to right center for the win (3-2).

  • Hannah Key finished with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Bethany Junker finished with two hits and one RBI.
  • Carleigh Haywood finished with two hits.
  • Jordyn Propst took the win on the mound, throwing four strikeouts.

What's Next?
The WIlliam Peace University softball team will return to their home field on Wednesday, April 10 to take on Pfeiffer University. The Pacers will face the Falcons at 2:00 p.m. at the WPU Softball Complex.
