Pacers Split Exciting Extra Inning Series with Pfeiffer

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace 7 Pfeiffer 9
  • Game 2: William Peace 8 Pfeiffer 7
  • Records: William Peace 14-16 Pfeiffer 30-6
  • Location: Raleigh, NC | WPU Softball Complex

Game 1:
  • The Falcons found their way around the bases in the top of the first inning as Vada Blue Sherrill boasted keen base running advancing two bases off a steal and error. Sherrill would score off a ground out from Mackenzie Punnell.
  • With bases loaded and one out, the Falcons scored two off a hit up the middle from Maranda Benton, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Olivia Oates stepped up to the plate, crushing one deep to center field, scoring Mojica who got on base with a throwing error.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Kari Westerbeek drilled a hit over the left field fence for a three-run homerun.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, with two runners on, Lauren Conway doubled to right center, scoring one. Kristina Mojica continued the impressive bats with a double to right center as well, scoring two. Down two, with two outs, Nadia Pittman hit a double to right center, scoring Mojica. The Pacers tied the game with a hit from Danielle Hunt, scoring Pittman.
  • The Pacers held the Falcons in the top of the seventh inning, and headed into the bottom of the inning tied 6-6. The Falcons defense kept the Pacers off the board and headed into extra innings.
  • The Falcons would score three runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Pacers responded with one run, but would not come up with the victory, falling 9-7 in the first game.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Mackenzie Pennell lead the Falcons with two hits, two RBI's, and one double.
  • Kari Westerbeek went 2-2 at the plate with three RBI's, and one homerun.
  • Maranda Benton finished with one hit and three RBI's.

Game 2:
  • In the top of the first inning, the Falcons brought in two runs but the Pacers responded in the bottom of the first inning with a two RBI homerun from Kristen Bailly. Nadia Pittman singled up the middle scoring one, to give the Pacers a 3-2 lead.
  • The Falcons would tie the game up in the top of the second inning as Mackenzie Pennell scored one off a hit to right field.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Pacer bats came alive, starting with a single from Candice Smith. Kristen Bailly worked a walk, followed by a single up the middle from Mojica, scoring Smith. Olivia Oates singled to left field, loing the bases. Nadia Pittman singled to right field scoring Bailly, to take a 5-3 advantage heading into the top of the third inning.
  • Skylar Conklin made her way on base on a walk and would advance to third on an error by the catcher. Emily Puckett sent one through the right side, scoring Conklin (6-3).
  • The Falcons closed the gap in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to cut the Pacers' lead to one.
  • In the top of the sixth inning, the Falcons tied the game with a base hit up the middle to score one. The game was tied heading into the bottom of the inning, 6-6.
  • The Pacers would head into extra innings with the Falcons and in the bottom of the ninth inning, with the Pacers down 7-6, Olivia Oates stood on second base and Nadia Pittman stood on first. Nadia Pittman would advance to second on a throwing error from the catcher, Oates would score to tie the game, and Pittman would round second and third to score, as the mis-thrown ball would land in an empty zone of the outfield.
  • The game would end in favor of the Pacers, 8-7.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 2:
  • Candice Smith finished with three hits and one double.
  • Kristin Bailly finished with one hit and two RBI's.
  • Nadia Pittman went 3-3 at the plate with two RBI's.
  • Lilianna Berber earned the win on the mound which makes her 2-0 on the season.


For the Foes for Game 2:
  • Sara Brown finished with three hits.
  • Mackenzie Pennell, Hannah Tyner, and Reece Davis each finished with two hits and one RBI.
  • Vada Blue Sherrill finished with one hit, one RBI, and one stolen base.

What's Next?
The Pacers close their 2019 regular season on Saturday, April 13 at Meredith College. The Pacers play the Angels at 2:00 p.m.
