Pacers Split Series with Battling Bishops

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace -1  N.C. Wesleyan - 3
  • Game 2: William Peace - 6 N.C. Wesleyan - 1
  • Records: William Peace 12-14  N.C. Wesleyan 16-11
  • Location: Rocky Mount, NC

Game 1:
  • The Pacers jumped on the scoreboard early in the second inning thanks to a single to left field from Olivia Oates, followed by an error with the next at-bat that would score Oates.
  • A quick two innings, would leave the score at 1-0 heading into the fourth inning. The Battling Bishops came up with a three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The Pacers would come close to overcoming the Bishops in the top of the sixth inning as they'd load the bases with just one out. N.C. Wesleyan's defense proved solid, however, as they'd hold off the Pacers scoring opportunity and seal the win, 3-1.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Beth Braswell lead the Bishops with three hits.
  • Meredith Mize finished with one hit for two RBI's.
  • Bryona Knight finished with one double and one RBI.
  • Beth Braswell earned the win on the mound, throwing eight strikeouts.

Game 2:
  • In game two, the Battling Bishops started off on top scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third inning.
  • The Pacers answered in a big way in the top of the fourth, with a four run inning off of powerful hits from Kristen Bailly, Olivia Oates, Emily Puckett, Skylar Conklin and Candice Smith.
  • The Battling Bishops were unable to get the bats going against Pacer pitcher, Danielle Hunt, as she only gave up one run and three hits.
  • In the top of the seventh inning, the Pacers sealed the deal scoring two additional runs off singles from Skylar Conklin and Kelsey Durham.
  • The Pacers would win, 6-1.

What's Next?

WPU softball is back in action on Sunday, March 7 with a double-header against Methodist University. The Pacers take on the Monarchs in Fayetteville, N.C. at 1:00 p.m.
