Springer's Goal Lifts Pacers Past Monarchs in Overtime Thriller

The Basics:

  • Final: William Peace 21  Methodist 20

  • Records: William Peace 8-2  Methodist 2-7

  • Location: Fayetteville, NC | Monarch Stadium

How It Happened:

  • The Monarchs took an early 6-2 lead as Sarah Ewin found the back of the net twice for the Monarchs in the first ten minutes of play.

  • Kirsten Dunham would find Rylie Toomey for the first of four straight Pacer goals. Allison Schaper would cap off the four goal run to tie the game at 6-6.

  • Methodist would again retake the lead a few minutes later but could not quite pull away from the Pacers. Kaelyn Holland gave the Monarchs a 10-7 lead with under seven minutes remaining in the first period.

  • The Pacers again answered as Rylie Toomey would find the back of the net twice before halftime to cut the Monarch's lead to 11-9.

  • Dana Florian scored twice in the first three minutes of play in the second half to tie the game at 11-11.

  • Methodist would again widen their lead as they would go on a six goal run led by Monti Hendrix who was responsible for four of the six goals.

  • With the Monarchs now leading 17-11, the Pacers again would fight back within two goals at 15-17 with just under fifteen minutes remaining in the second period.

  • Sarah Ewin put away a free position shot to make it 18-15. Dana Florian would then answer and give the Pacers a 19-18 lead as she scored three of the next four goals.

  • It would be quite the ending to this USA South conference clash as Sarah Ewin tied the game at 19-19, it would be a short lived tie as Rylie Toomey fired the Pacers back in front. With the Pacers up by one it would be Monti Hendrix who would send the game into overtime as she found the back of the net with six second left in regulation.

  • The overtime period saw sloppy play from both teams as both team struggled to run their offense. It would remain tied until under two minutes left in the overtime period. It would be Sophomore Shania Springer who pick up a ground ball in the Pacers defensive end and  race 60 yards towards the goal and fire home the game winner for as the Pacers would win a thriller 21-20!

Pacer Top Performers:

  • Allison Schaper finished with four goals and 8 draw controls.

  • Rylie Toomey finished with a season high 9 goals to go along 1 assists, 10 draw controls and 3 ground balls.

  • Dana Florian had 7 goals and 7 draw controls.

For the Foes:

  • Sarah Ewin with 7 goals and 3 assists.

  • Monti Hendrix finished with 6 goals and 7 draw controls

What's Next?

The Pacers are back in action on Tuesday April, 9, 2019 at 7:00pm as they match up against crosstown rival Meredith College. This game will be played at Meredith College.
