Men's Lacrosse Headed To First USA South Conference Tournament After Win Over Pfeiffer

The Basics:

  • Final Score: William Peace 20  Pfeiffer 16

  • Records: William Peace 6-10 Pfeiffer 8-7

  • Location: Misenheimer, N.C. (Lefko Field )

How it Happened:

  • The first period would see ten goals combined between the two teams. Treven King scored early to put the Falcons ahead.

  • Nick Falso then scored his first of four goals on the day followed by a goal from Tre Galligan to give the Pacers the 2-1 lead. It would be a short lived lead as Jared Nelson brought the score back level at 2-2 with under ten minutes left in the first.

  • Walker Rice and the Falcons Josh Reffey would trade goals 16 seconds apart as the score now read 3-3.

  • After a slashing penalty on Pfeiffer, the Pacers took advantage of the man up opportunity as Nick Falso found Parker Beebe to give the Pacers a 4-3 lead .

  • The Pacers would then extend their lead to 7-3 down the stretch in the first period as Brewer Warlick, Nick Falso and Dalton Albright all found the back of the net.

  • Luke Cox and Jared Nelson for the Falcons would get the scoring started off in the second period with 3 goals in a row, cutting the Pacers lead to one 8-7.

  • Walker Rice would break up the Falcons scoring with his first of three goals in the second period alone. Unfortunately the Falcons would score three more goals in the next two minutes to put them up 9-8.

  • Walker Rice would score again to tie up the game followed by Nick Falso both assisted by Dalton Albright to put the Pacers up 10-9.

  • In the last four minutes of the second period the Falcons would score three man up goals broken up by a goal from Anthony Florian and a last second goal from Walker Rice Pacers into halftime tied up 12-12.

  • Bryce Shipman would start the second half with his first goal of the game but would be followed by a Falcon goal from Josh Reffey keeping the score tied at 14-14.

  • The Pacers would dominate the rest of the third quarter and would score five more goals by five different Pacers, Nick Falso,Tre Galligan, Drew Von Werne, Walker Rice and Anthony Florian to put the Pacers up 18-13.

  • The Pacers stingy defense would hold the Falcons to one goal in third period.

  • Jacob Leone of the Falcons would be the first to score in the fourth period but would be followed by a goal from the Pacers Dalton Albright.

  • In the last two minutes of the game John Allen of the Falcons would make a last ditch effort scoring twice in those final two minutes but would ultimately come up short as a goal from Anthony Florian would seal the 20-16 win for the Pacers. 

Pacer Top Performers:

  • Walker Rice led all scorers with five goals and one assist.

  • Dalton Albright finished with two goals and two assists.

  • Nick Falso would add four goals to go along with one assist.

  • Drew Miller won 17 face offs and finished with 12 ground balls.

For the Foes:

  • Jared Nelson tallied fours goals and an impressive six assists

  • John Allen and Luke Cox would each add three goals a piece.

Stats of the Game:

  • The Pacers out-shot the Falcons 45 -41.

  • WPU finished with 19 face off wins to Pfeiffer's 17

What's Next?

The William Peace men's lacrosse team will travel to LaGrange,GA and face off against the Hawks of Huntingdon College in the semi-finals of the USA South Conference Tournament. This game is scheduled for  April 27 ,2019 with a 4:30PM start at  Callaway Stadium in LaGrange,GA.
